How Can You Join Merchant Navy!

Deck Officer:
The Deck Officer has skills in all aspects of the Navigation of ships, cargo handling operations and storage, ship stability, ship maneuvering and ship management. Navigation today uses both satellite and other electronic means but a fundamental understanding of more traditional techniques is still vital to cope with all possible situations. The ultimate goal of the Deck officer is to become Master of his/her own ship; leadership skills and man management are, therefore, also essential ingredients here

How to Join
Candidates must be 10+2 PCM in addition he/she must meet requirement and clear one of the following entrance test.
 1. IMU Test conducted by Indian Maritime University.
2. IIT (Indian Institute of Technology). If you clear IIT entrance test or in   extended list.
3. 10+2(PCM min 60% marks + English min 50%marks) . Entrance test of approved Nautical Institute.

Career flow chart:
Pre-Sea Training as Deck cadet. 
Preparatory post-sea training obtain 2nd mate COC (D.G. Shipping)
Complete Required Sea time as 3rd/2nd navigation officer
Preparatory post-sea training obtain 1st mate COC.
Complete Required Sea time as 1st Navigation Officer
Obtain Master (Foreign Going) COC Sail as Captain of the Ship.

Engine officer:
Engine officers mainly deal with the maintenance of various kinds of machineries found on board ships. There is a long list of such machineries and they include the main engine or the main propulsion plant, the auxiliary power generators, boilers, pumps, inert gas systems and so forth. Needless to say when a ship is built these machineries are fitted at that time in the ship building yard but since a ship is almost continuously on the move these machineries require constant preventive as well as breakdown maintenance in order to keep those machineries in proper operational condition. The ultimate goal of the Engine officer is to become Chief Engineer of his/her own ship.

How to Join
To join as Engine Officers candidate must meet one of the following criteria.
1. 10+2(PCM min 60%  + English min 50% marks) -Qualify IMU CET or Extended list in IIT JEE or Qualify any marine Engineering College Entrance test.
2. Graduate in Mechanical Engineering (min 60% marks). You must complete Sea training in DG approved institute.
3. Two year diploma in Mechanical Engineering (min 60% marks). You must complete    Sea Training in DG approved institute

Career flow chart
Pre-Sea Training as Engine cadet. 
Preparatory post-sea training obtain 2nd Assistant Engineer COC (D.G. Shipping)
Complete Required Sea time as 3rd/2nd Assistant Engineer
Preparatory post-sea training obtains 1st Assistant Engineer COC.
Complete Required Sea time as 1st Assistant Engineer.
Obtain Chief Engineer (Foreign Going) COC Sail as Chief Engineer of the Ship
